5/22/2005 | Said and done

A big thanks to Josh, Paul and the others for pulling off yet another fine Yuppiefest over the weekend. You wouldn\’t believe the amount of work it takes to do so. These guys practically kill themselves year after year to make this thing happen, and bands like us are eternally grateful for it.

The sun was ferocious, my friends. Ferocious. And any attendees who woke up Saturday morning still in denial about summer being on the way received a violent blow of reality to the head when the thermometer broke 100 degrees and kept going. However, potential long-term heat-enduced brain damage notwithstanding, everyone walked away feeling fine, and I\’m happy to report that this time around not a single case of minor heat stroke infiltrated our band (although for a few seconds at one point I\’m pretty darn sure I saw our drummer sweating air).

And finally, thanks to those of you who came out to watch. You\’re the real Yuppiefest heroes here, and we appreciate you making it fun for us.

So, now that our last booked show has been exhausted, it\’s time to get back to working on the album. Check back here from time to time in the coming weeks as I plan to post updates on how things are coming together and/or unravelling at the seams.

One more thing: A week ago, Matt and myself went up to the Adventure Club studio and recorded a few acoustic songs with Josh. They will air on July 3rd. More info on the shows page.

Bye now.

UPDATE: Couple o\’ Yuppiefest pics.

5/12/2005 | Off to band practice.

First one in a while.

Two shows in Waco this weekend.

The weekend after is Yuppiefest.

After that, we\’ll be working on the new album.

We\’re in the midst of planning a late summer tour with Darlington.

41gb.com doesn\’t work at the moment but should any day now.

41gorgeousblocks.com is working just fine but may go down in a few days for a few days.

You can now buy \”Well I Sorta Know How You Feel\” from iTunes, Amazon, eMusic, and a bunch of other online places. But you can get it here cheaper and at a show cheapest.

We\’re shooting a video for a new song called \”Moot Point\” on June 4th.

I read a book a called \”The Future of Music\” and have been having nightmares ever since.

If you\’re a recording industry type, you should go pick up a copy of the new special issue of Mix Magazine titled \”Who Cares About Quality?\”. It\’s awesome.

More sentences later. I may even proofread.

We\’re playing this Wednesday at the Inferno in Denton. The Inferno used to be the old Rick\’s place. Now it\’s the Inferno, but you probably gathered that. Some info.

| Indie Rocking for Dummies

I\’m linking to this because it\’s a work of comedy that made me laugh and because I know several people who really need to brush up on some of the items discussed. Honestly, this is important stuff for them to know, and I\’d hate for them to be embarrassed one day over something as minor as not dissing the right album by a particular band.

It also has some handy rules and reasoning on the colors of undersized T-shirts that are acceptable to wear, as well as information on how to buy an easy-to-read, cross-referenced guidebook that will help you appear to have a well-rounded knowledge of music when you really don\’t:

For instance, you look up Built to Spill because you\’ve read about them in some indie \’zine. You see that there is this other band cross-listed with Built to Spill called Stuntman. That\’s a bonus because Stuntman is still pretty obscure. Where you really rack up the points is by pointing out that both those bands arose out of Treepeople. You couldn\’t pick Treepeople out of a lineup, but you\’ve just linked three cool bands from Idaho. That\’s right, Idaho. Who the heck is going to doubt your authority after that?

Again, I post this not only because everyone likes a good laugh at the expense of people who don\’t need to be mocked because they mock themselves, but also because several people, after laughing, waiting a moment and looking over their shoulder, might be able to take the information to heart and use the hell out of it.
